The darker evenings are closing in & the long lazy days of the Summer are behind us but with Halloween quickly approaches, Carlow is still full of fun and entertaining things to do for families.
Woodford Dolmen Hotel Halloween Kids Party
On Monday 29th of October, the Woodford Dolmen Hotel is hosting its 4th annual family Halloween party perfect for all kids. There will be a ghoulish disco, devilish bouncy castle, Halloween face painting, and plenty more haunting activities. All proceeds from the party will go to Holy Angels Day Care Centre. The fun-filled day will begin at 1 pm goes on till 4 pm. Admission is €6 per child or a family of 3 children for just €15. For more details see the hotel’s events calendar.
Rathwood Halloween Train
Book the whole family onto the Spooktacular Halloween train adventure in Rathwood. The event is available from the 20th of October to the 26th of October. The train is suitable for all ages up to 8 years for daytime trains. It’s fun, enchanting and a little bit spooky!! The fun doesn’t end there, for the big kids and adults you book any train after 4 pm when things get a little scarier! Adult tickets cost €7 and a child ticket is €10. Carlow Boat Trips
There will be a boat trip on the barrow from the 26th October-4th November at the town park. This will be an open boat adventure that is enjoyable for all ages. By breathing in the crisp autumn air you will feel refreshed and relaxed after. You will take a journey through the second-largest and slowest river in Ireland. Scarefest
Visit Carlow have organised their inaugural Scarefest this year in the spooky surroundings of Duckett’s Grove & Carlow Courthouse. Scarefest is packed with things to do for the Adults and all families. The main highlights of Scarefest include:
Paranormal Investigation at Duckett’s Grove
Do you dare to take part in a real-life paranormal investigation? If so visit Duckett’s Grove on the 27th of October. The tickets will cost €27.61. You must be over the age of 18 to attend. On the night you will be introduced to real paranormal investigators and then taken to the old barn where the chilling adventure will begin. It will begin at 8.30 pm and will end at 11.30 pm.
Public Witchcraft
Maybe you might be more interested in Witchcraft? A local woman who has been accused of witchcraft will be put on trial in the courthouse on the 28th of October. All ages are welcome. Adult tickets cost €5 and all children U12 go in free.
Spectacular Fire Show
Or why not join the Dublin Circus Project for a spectacular fire show after the witch trial. The night will be a fun-filled night with DJs, food stalls and face painting. A perfect night out for the family. This event is free and no booking is required.
Farmers market
If you would prefer something during the day why not visit Carlow’s farmers market, open on the 27th October from 9am-2pm.The traders will have Halloween themed market arranged for all to join. There will be pumpkin carving, guess the weight of the pumpkin and plenty more fun-filled things to do.
Halloween storytime for kids
You might want to go to something more relaxing with the kids during this haunting season. Pop into Carlow county library on the 30th of October where a fun and enjoyable Halloween story will be told to really get into the Halloween spirit. It’s free admission to this spooky storytime which runs from 3 – 4 pm. Make sure to wear your Halloween costume to this Spooktacular storytelling.

Older children and adults might be more interested in more historical stories being told at Carlow county library on the 30th of October at 6 pm-7 pm. Come along and hear the untold tales of the many ghouls, ghosts and other supernaturals that reportedly haunt Carlow town.
